*In eight separate indictments unsealed in Florida, federal prosecutors charged the companies and their employees with manufacturing and distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine, and supplying chemicals to manufacture industrial drugs.
“We know that the global supply chain for fentanyl, which ends with the deaths of Americans, often begins with chemical companies in China,” US Attorney General Merrick Garland said at a news conference.
Fentanyl overdose deaths in the United States have increased dramatically in recent years. In 2022, more than 108,000 people died of fentanyl overdose in the United States.
